J. Cole Serves as a Slave in Moving ‘G.O.M.D.’ Video

Spring may be just around the corner, but it’s still a Cole World. After closing out SXSW with an epic performance on Saturday (March 21), J. Cole delivers the powerful video for “G.O.M.D.,” a song featured on his chart-topping album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive.

The visuals find Cole taking cinematic elements from African-American slave tales such as Alex Haley’s Roots and 12 Years A Slave. He transcends time, heading to the past to play the role of a house slave.

The rapper, who is in the midst of his Forest Hills Drive Tour, is not just any slave. He's the man behind a slave uprising as he plans a revolt and gains access to artillery, which he then gives to the other slaves. Once the master and his minions are captured and tied up, Cole and the other servants celebrate with a massive bonfire.

“G.O.M.D.” is the third set of visuals from Cole since dropping his third album in December. His tour, divided into three acts, will continue in Europe with Jhene Aiko and Pusha T for Act 2: The Journey before commencing with the North American leg, Act 3: Hollywood, which features Big Sean, YG, Jeremih, Bas, Cozz and Omen.
