Rapper Chuck D. joined CNN host Carol Costello for a CNN discussion on the impact of the Trayvon Martin murder on the anniversary of the teen’s death last night. Chuck D. said that when he was a kid, there were no guns on the streets, but after the Reagan/Bush era, “there’s been nothing but guns and drugs in the black community.”

Chuck D. also noted that it was during this time period that America saw a dramatic rise in the number of black males being incarcerated. “And nobody seems to give a clear answer,” he continued. “Race is America’s folly.”

Some would say that there has always been a plan in place to flood the African American community with guns and drugs. They would also say that there has always been a plan in place to remove fathers from the home to build up the prison industrial complex.

But is all this some massive conspiracy to destroy the black community or are we just making excuses for not taking responsibility for ourselves?
