Frontier School Board members Tuesday night had a discussion about transgender students and conforming ideas that could support situations and the atmosphere within the district.

The education department and New York State High School Athletic Association have come up with guidelines in recent time to act as suggestions for districts to help create a safe and supportive atmosphere for transgender and gender non-conforming students.

Again, the State comes up with suggestive guidelines, not mandatory rules. It is a subject that, if it arises, districts will have to take action. According to the Buffalo News:

If transgender youth want to participate in sports consistent with the gender they identify with, state guidelines suggest the school and superintendent confirm the gender identity, based on documentation from the parent, guardian, guidance counselor, or from a doctor, psychologist or other medical professional, Athletic Director Richard Gray told the board.
