Listen to Flo Rida’s New Single ‘Whistle’
While ‘Good Feeling’ and his Sia-assisted second single ‘Wild Ones’ are still dominating charts the world over, Flo Rida is showing no signs of slowing down. The 32-year old MC has just released ‘Whistle,’ the third single from his fourth album, ‘Only One Rida (Part 2),’ which is due in stores this July.
Produced by DJ Frank E— a frequent collaborator of Flo’s, perhaps best known for his work with him on ‘Right Round’ and ‘Turn Around (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)’ — ‘Whistle’ should have no trouble finding its way to radio playlists soon. While it’s not quite the four-on-the-floor fist pumping sound Flo Rida has championed of late, it’s most certainly a breezy pop rap tune, complete with chilled-out guitar strums and a catchy whistled melody.
Definitely referring to something more human than a whistle, Flo Rida croons: “Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby? Let me know / Girl I’m gonna show you how to do it and we start real slow / You just put your lips together and you come real close / Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby?”
While the song may help Flo Rida retain his position as the king of pop rap — something he seems to be jostling for with Pitbull — it’s not the most original of ideas. Last summer, Maroon 5 scored a major hit with ‘Move Like Jagger,’ as did Foster the People with ‘Pumped Up Kicks,’ both of which prominently feature whistles. And who can forget Peter Bjorn and John’s indie rock classic, ‘Young Folks?’
