What:  The Buffalo Academy of Science will host its 10th annual Poetry Slam for students in grades 6 – 12 throughout the City of Buffalo. The event’s theme is “Buffalo: My City, My Future.” This annual event is a continuing series that not only reinforces the academic skills students learn in the classroom, but also encourages students’ creativity and originality. This dynamic competition provides a safe forum for students to self-express and have fun! We invite everyone to come out and witness our 20 finalists – representing nearly a dozen different Buffalo Charter and Public Schools – battle it out for the Grand Prize of $500!!!
A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets read or recite their original work. The performances are judged on a numeric scale by a pre-selected group of judges. Many teens throughout the U.S. have found validity in slam poetry and BASCS is pleased to continue to provide this venue for students to provide their unique voices to the art of spoken word.
