Eddie Murphy Teases a ‘Coming to America’ Sequel

Eddie Murphy sparked joy on Twitter yesterday, when he teased that a Coming to America sequel could be in the works.

The 1988 flick about a prince named Akeem who leaves his home country of Zamunda to find love in Queens, NY, starred Murphy, James Earl Jones, Arsenio Hall, Shari Headly and Vanessa Bell-Calloway, and is an undisputed comedy classic. Murphy actually posted a picture of Calloway as Imani Izzi in her iconic gold dress during her hilarious marriage scene in his teasing post.

In addition to being a black classic, spawning countless cultural references that are still prevalent to this day, the film was a box office hit, and was the third-highest grossing film in the U.S. in the year it debuted. It also was nominated for two Oscars.

With the countless reboots and sequels that have flooded Hollywood as of late, most recently the announcement that Michael B. Jordan could be playing Neo in a new version of The Matrix, a sequel is a definite possibility.

Or, it could all be a big ruse, since Murphy’s Twitter account now appears to have been deleted. Previously, most of his page consisted of retweets. Either way, the post definitely had people talking. See the reactions below.
