Disturbing Stats on Distracted Driving
It's not exactly a Hallmark holiday, but April is "Distracted Driving Awareness Month".
Not long ago, we learned that Governor Cuomo was looking to close a loophole in New York State's current distracted driving laws, making it illegal to use a device, even when stopped at a light.
If you WEREN'T already aware of the dangers behind the wheel, these may be a little disturbing.
How many of them are you guilty of?
According to the National Safety Council...
- 35
...the percentage of teenagers that brows social media while driving...or SAY they will once they get their license. (17% say they've already contributed to a crash because of it...)
- 45
...the percentage of us that say we feel pressured to check our work email while driving.
- 71
...percentage of us who say you can have up to THREE drinks and still drive (this is true if it's 3 drinks over the course of 3 hours. But definitely not 3 in ONE hour).
- 33
...percentage of us who think it's fine to drive on less than 4 hours of sleep (several studies have shown that's as dangerous as driving drunk).
- 13
...percentage of people who admitted to driving after smoking pot in the last month (!!!)
