Rapper Dex Osama was shot and killed outside of a Detroit strip club early Monday morning (Sept. 7). The rising rapper was 26.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Osama was seen exiting the Crazy Horse gentleman’s club at 1:30 a.m. in Detroit when the shooter, who was waiting outside, fired at him. The incident apparently occurred after two group's of men were involved in a dispute.

Osama, whose real name is Byron Cox, ran to a nearby gas station for help and collapsed. He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead. Another victim who was shot in the incident is expected to live.

Many fans believed his death to be a rumor until Meek Mill confirmed the news in an Instagram post.

"Damn RIP YOUNGIN..... Had a lot of talks with you about getting out them streets and chasing ya dreams! I really believed in you and seen you putting on for Detroit!" wrote the Dreams Worth More Than Money creator. "RIP @dex_osama. for all my fellow young kings coming up tryna make it out, take ya time and think about where you want ya life to go! MAY GOD BLESS HIS SOUL! Never let them streets shatter ya dreams!!!"

The "Death on Me" rapper was making a name for himself in the hip-hop community.  Dej Loaf, who collaborated with the late rapper on the song "Lifestyle Pt. II" last week, also shared her condolences via Twitter by simply tweeting, "Dex, my boy!" next to an angel emoji.
