Former NFL All-Star Darren Sharper has been indicted on rape charges and could face life in prison.

Via Pro Football Talk reports:

Former NFL safety Darren Sharper could face life in prison after being charged Friday in a grand jury indictment on charges stemming from rape allegations in New Orleans.

According to Ken Daley of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Sharper was indicted on two counts of aggravated rape from a September 2013 incident, and another charge of simple rape of another woman last August.

Sharper is accused of sexually assaulting two impaired women, and two acquaintances were also charged Friday with multiple counts.

Sharper has been jailed in California since February while awaiting separate charges of drugging and raping women there. He’s also being investigated on similar charges in Las Vegas.

With the indictment in Louisiana, however, the stakes went up for Sharper. The maximum sentence for aggravated rape in Louisiana is life in prison without the possibility of parole, probation or suspended sentence.

Sharper’s bond in the Louisiana case was set at $2.5 million.
