After a brief hiatus, YMCMB’s Cory Gunz is back with a brand new project titled ‘Datz WTF I’m Talkin Bout.’

The mixtape has some big features, as it includes artists such as Busta Rhymes, Mack Maine, Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J and more throughout the 17 tracks.

Gunz starts off this project on the dark side, "not fearing man" with his intro and title track ‘DatzWTFimTalkinBout,’ which sounds like a creepy carnival ride.

Busta Rhymes and Gunz together on ‘Kan’t See Me’ has to be exciting for any hip-hop fan, as the two rapid-fire rappers go back and forth with their respective styles. Unfortunately, the excitement wanes quickly as Busta shines over Gunz on the track -- a bit underwhelming due to its potential.

When you think of Cory Gunz, high energy comes to mind as he's demonstrated on tracks such as ‘A Milli’ and ‘6 Foot 7 Foot.’ This mixtape is a little more melodic, which doesn’t play into his strengths and leaves him almost searching for his niche throughout.

Songs such as ‘Ballin Out On These Bitches,’ in which he says he has “no love for the government,” and ‘Baraka,’ where he sounds like he is going for that Chief Keef-Rick Ross vibe fall flat. With ‘Feelat,’ he sounds like Cassidy via 2004.

He does sound natural and comfortable on the track ‘I’m Laughin,' which also features Wiz Khalifa. "They hatin’ on me, I’m laughin’," he spits on the track, in which he gets to showcase his signature flow and show off some of his talent.

The introspective ‘I Try’ is another high point for this effort. He sounds authentic on the track as he confesses, “I wish I could’ve been what y'all expect, but I try.” One could only wonder the potential success he could achieve if he did a few more of these kind of songs, mixed with his high energy tracks.

Overall, the mixtape is underwhelming and difficult to get through from beginning to end. Cory Gunz seems like he is an artist trying to find his identity within hip-hop and inside the YMCMB crew.
