We’ve seen some truly horrendous first pitch efforts over the years, from the “what did you expect” dribbler that Mariah Carey uncorked, to the shameful 10-footer that NBA star John Wall recently unleashed.

The crowd at PETCO park in San Diego was treated to the opposite side of that coin Monday, when Cirque du Soleil performer Gabryel Nogueira da Silva was given the task of the ceremonially first pitch.

Dressed up like a superhero, de Silva executed an acrobatic, corkscrewing flip before firing a high strike with some cheese on it to the catcher.

John Wall would probably point out that de Silva does cheat a bit, by throwing the pitch from the front of the mound rather than the rubber.  Nevertheless, it’s still quite an impressive feat, which you can check out below.
