UPDATE:

According to a clarification by the French publication Premiere, a solo spin-off film for Childish Gambino's 'Star Wars' character Lando Calrissian is, in fact, not in the works.

The misunderstanding was apparently a result of an improper translation between the French site and the Lucasfilm representative Kathleen Kennedy, according to i09.

Apparently, Kennedy's statement should have said that although the company would like to do the spin-off, it probably isn't possible at the moment. "Her comment should have stated, “We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it’s not relevant,” Premiere wrote.

That's a bummer, but we're still excited to see Childish Gambino as Lando in the 'Star Wars' film.

ORIGINAL STORY:

We're just over a week away from seeing Childish Gambino star in the next Star Wars film, and it looks like his character is already landing him another major gig. According to Business Insider, the multi-talented actor is set to star in a spin-off film that centers around his character in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lando Calrissian.

Lucasfilm studio chief Kathleen Kennedy told the outlet earlier today (May 16) that the studio will be targeting Lando as the next character from the popular franchise to land their own spin-off film.

"We think that the next spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian," Kennedy told the publication. "Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next."

While it's not confirmed, fans believe that Kennedy's comments are implying that there are other planned spin-off films that the Star Wars franchise wants to create in the future. Solo: A Star Wars Story is slated to finally premiere on May 25, which will give fans their first peek at Lando Calrissian and Gambino's debut in the franchise. Reports say that there have been mixed reviews pouring in from critics, but the "Redbone" rapper's performance has received high praise.

The next film that will come from the studio in the Star Wars series is Episode IX, which is slated to come out in 2019.

We'll have to await more details surrounding a Lando Calrissian spin-off, but for now, it looks like we can expect Gambino's role in Star Wars to continue.
