The Buffalo City Mission is the main shelter or source that most homeless and less fortunate people can rely on. In a recent audit, it showed the city mission was not properly certified.

According to WKBW, a recent audit by the New York State Comptroller's Office found six uncertified shelters across the state that have not been properly inspected.

The shelters have a capacity of 20 or more people, which should have triggered a requirement for state certification and inspection. One of those six shelters is the Buffalo City Mission on East Tupper Street downtown.

The audit shows state officials were largely unaware these shelters were operating without required certifications.
