As we come to the end of Black History Month, my intern MeMe addresses her peers in an original rap: Why is Black history such a mystery??

Last week Todd Anderson, Intern MeMe and I went down to the Buffalo Housing Authority to support their Black History Month event and play BHM Trivia with some of the residents. Oddly enough, it was the white people working the other vendor booths who knew most of the names, dates and historical moments in Black history.

This prompted my intern to write this rap, which rightly calls Black History a mystery!!

Black Mystery Month by MeMe

SOMETIMES BLACK HISTORY IS TREATED LIKE A MYSTERY
WE SEEM TO FORGET BOUT’ OUR PEOPLE COMING OUT OF MISERY
MUST I TEACH YOU? CAUSE MAN THIS IS HISTORY!
WE CLIMBED, HILLS, WALKED MILES LIKE MLK
FOR FREEDOM, CAUSE SLAVERY WAS EVERYDAY
ROSA PARKS WAS ANOTHER, FOUGHT FOR SISTERS AND BROTHERS
SHE AIN’T GIVE UP NO SEAT JUST BECAUSE OF HER COLOR
SEE I RESPECT THAT, PEOPLE NEGLECT THAT
THINKIN’ BOUT’ THE WRONG THINGS, MAN WHERE YA’ HEAD AT?
THOSE PEOPLE PAVED THE WAY FOR LEGENDS LIKE MJ, FROM THE COURT AND THE STAGE
OR EVEN BEYONCE AND OPRAH WINFREY
WE ARE KINGS AND QUEENS NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY!
SEE…I HAVE A DREAM AND MY DREAM IN MY POSSESSION
SUCCESS IS UP TO YOU, WHY LAY DOWN IN DEPRESSION?
SO GET UP, STAND UP, FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!
WHO KNOWS? YOU MIGHT BE TAUGHT ON FUTURE SITES.
