As summer draws closer, the weather gets warmer—and so too, apparently, do the songs. That much became crystal clear when we were compiling our list of the best songs of the week.

First up is Aminé, who managed to make his newest single, titled "REDMERCEDES," even better by getting Missy Elliott to pop up on the remix. Featuring a signature Misdemeanor verse, that same irresistible West Coast instrumental and a timely Bow Wow reference, there's no way this one wasn't making our list.

Next is the great Vince Staples, who signaled the coming of his Big Fish Theory album the same day he dropped off "Big Fish," the latest single for it. Featuring precise introspection, a bouncy West Coast beat, vocals from Juicy J and a striking visual accompaniment, Vince gave us a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks. So did Lil Yachty.

Lil Boat showed off a pretty underrated flow on "X Men," the latest single from his forthcoming album, Teenage Emotions. It feels like we're more likely to hear the Atlanta rapper delve into light-heartedness and Auto-Tune than straight 16-bar verses, but this track reminded us he can also do some seriously dismissive, and somehow, aggressive flexing when he wants to.

Of course, we'd be remiss to leave out "A Lite," a striking Buddy cut from Ocean & Montana, his joint EP with Kaytranada. Buddy can definitely sing, but he's still clever enough to turn in a hot 16 whenever he pleases.

Smokepurpp is one of the most promising up-and-comers in the game right now, and he showed exactly why by spazzing on "Audi," a bass-heavy anthem that finds the young rapper doing some serious flexing on a track that amassed over 100,000 plays on Soundcloud in under one day's time. Crazy.

But that's enough from us. Check out XXL's best songs of the week for yourself below.
