It seemed inevitable, and there were some other great contenders, but J.K. Simmons has been awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at the 2015 Academy Awards. Simmons took home the statue for his fantastic, unnerving role as Fletcher, the intimidating band instructor in Whiplash.
When actors transform for a role, we take notice (and most of the time, so does that little golden statue named Oscar). Christian Bale in ‘The Machinist,’ Matthew McConaughey in ‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ Charlize Theron in ‘Monster,’ Christian Bale in the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy, etc. Jake Gyllenhaal recently joined the club when he dropped 25 pounds to play the sociopathic Lou Bloom in ‘Nightcrawler,’ and now he’s at it again with his incredible transformation for his next film, Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Southpaw.’
We've been tracking the progress of 'The Equalizer' for some time now, and while the Denzel Washington-led film has yet to hit theaters, word is that early screenings are testing overwhelmingly positive. In fact, work has already begun to follow up the new film, directed by longtime Washington pal Antoine Fuqua, with 'The Equalizer 2.'
It brings us great sadness to report this news on the first day of the New Year -- James Avery, the beloved actor who portrayed Uncle Phil on the hit '90s sitcom 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,' has passed away at the age of 68. Avery, who passed away late last night in Los Angeles, was an actor known for his warmth, and continued to appear on many TV shows over the years after 'Fresh Prince' concluded.
Yahoo! has debuted the trailer for 'Ride Along,' the new comedy from the director and producer of 'Think Like a Man.' The film pairs the comedy duo of Kevin Hart and Ice Cube as two mismatched guys -- a cop and his sister's boyfriend -- as they go on a crazy 24-hour ride along through the streets of Atlanta. Ice Cube, who also starred in '21 Jump Street,' plays the role of the cop -- obviously -- while Hart is his foil, a big-mouthed rookie desperate to prove his worth.
