Akon is a popular Senegalese American singer who wants to use his money and power for good. He plans to launch a "Solar Academy" this summer in Bamako, Mali which will help educate people on how to install and  maintain solar power electricity systems, as well as micro grids in Africa.

The goal of the academy is to help  entrepreneurs and engineers produce solar power.  Africa only has around 320 days of sunlight a year, so conserving solar energy will help bring light to surrounding homes and communities. Creating new jobs is imperative for the rural areas in Africa and Akon is providing them with the opportunity to do so.

“We expect the Africans who graduate from this center to devise new, innovative, technical solutions,” said Niang. “With this Academy, we can capitalize on Akon Lighting Africa and go further.”

Great job Akon!!
