Health official, Mohammad Alavi, says acid rain may have caused symptoms such as shortness of breath among those admitted to hospitals.

The World Health Organization has recognized Ahwaz, the capital of Khuzestan in Iran, as one of the world’s most polluted cities, citing heavy industry and low-quality car fuel as a major cause of this pollution. The pollution in the air gets into the clouds and comes back to haunt us as tainted raindrops.

That begs to ask the question what American cities pose greatest risk for acid rain? Research shows that the eastern half of the United States is mainly affected by acid rain; the northeast (especially New York) suffers the most.

So the next time you want to drink the rain water or play in the rain puddles, think again!
