This afternoon (Wednesday, August 1) on Esser Road in Buffalo, a 4-year-old boy comes running out of a house, bleeding severely, while his grandmother comes after him with two very large knives. Tonight, both are dead.

There are still a lot of questions about the incident. But the whole situation frankly makes no sense! Buffalo Police were called to a house near Riverside Park around 4 p.m. today after a 9-1-1 call reported a toddler had been stabbed. Chief of Detectives Dennis Richards says:

"As the officers approached the residence to determine what happened, and render aid, they discovered the four year old boy bleeding profusely on the porch. The 38 year old woman, who has been identified as the maternal grandmother of the four year old, charged towards the officers, armed with two large knives."

After several attempts to get Charlene Fears to drop her weapons, a 25-year police force veteran shot and killed the boy's grandma.

Meanwhile, the toddler, who is still unidentified, was taken to Women's and Children's hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His distraught mother was with him.

WHY WHY WHY???

Esser Avenue, near Tonawanda and Ontario Streets, was closed to traffic for several hours between Oregon Place and Eckhert Street tonight. Both the stabbing and the police shooting are under still investigation.
