This story, first reported on Channel 4, is having parents think twice about leaving children in the parking lot while they shop. The original story leads the reader to believe that the baby was left in the car unattended.

On the air I mentioned an alternative to having your little one running around the store is to strap him/her up in a shopping cart.

The WBLK Phone lines then blew up with people fed up with bad parents.

After talking to shoppers who frequent the Hometown Grocery Store on 17th & Pierce, this option was not available as it is more like a 'corner store' experience.

So this mother left her baby in the care of another adult sitting in the backseat. Unfortunately a drive by shooting occurred in the few minutes she was in the store. The toddler is recovering in the hospital.

Hear it straight from the source:

My heart goes out to everyone affected in this tragedy. And I personally apologize for assuming that the baby was left in the car by herself. I pray God will heal all wounds in time.

################## UPDATE 6pm ########################

This story just got more interesting. Channel 2 is now reporting that the other person in the car was the baby's father, not another female, as the caller indicated.

Rumor has it that the father left the hospital before the cops got there. So was HE the intended target in the drive by shooting? Is that why my caller was hesitant to reveal the sex of the "other adult" in the car?

Stay tuned...
